How to Read a Resistor

Most standard resistors have colored bands painted on them. These colors are a universal code that tells you the exact resistance value (measured in Ohms, Ω) without needing to measure it.

For example, a resistor with Brown, Black, and Red bands has a value of 1,000 Ohms (or 1kΩ).
